Overview

In response to the evolving needs of the industry and in consideration of representations received, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recently addressed a crucial matter regarding the filing of quarterly and annual returns under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022.

On May 4th, 2024, the CPCB communicated its reception of requests from Industry Associations for an extension of the filing timeline. Recognizing the significance of this issue, the Ministry took prompt action.

Deadline Extended to June 30th, 2024

The original deadline for filing quarterly and annual returns for the Financial Year 2023-24 was April 30th, 2024. However, in light of the circumstances and to facilitate the process, the Ministry has decided to extend this deadline until June 30th, 2024.

       Return Type      Original       Extended
        Annual Return     30-Apr-2024       30-June-2024
      Quarterly Return      30-Apr-2024       30-June-2024

This extension aligns with Rule 9A of the E-Waste (Management) Amendment Rules, 2024, and aims to provide registered entities with ample time to fulfill their obligations under the E-Waste Management framework. Importantly, during this extended period, activities related to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Certificate generation and transfer will continue on the EPR portal, enabling seamless operations for businesses.

By extending the timeline for filing quarterly and annual returns, the Ministry aims to strike a balance between regulatory requirements and industry needs, fostering sustainable practices in e-waste management.

In conclusion, this extension offers a pragmatic solution to address the concerns raised by stakeholders, promoting transparency, and ensuring the continued success of e-waste management initiatives.
