EPR Compliance Services in India for Returns and Targets

EPR compliance services cover what Extended Producer Responsibility demands every year after registration: returns filed on time, targets met with valid certificates and records that survive an audit. LexComply files plastic, e-waste and battery returns at each stream's own frequency, checks every recycler certificate before purchase, tracks any shortfall against its refund window and records everything on a platform used by 450+ corporate clients.

Our EPR Compliance Services

Everything that recurs once you are registered, stream by stream and year by year.

Return Calendar by Stream

Each stream filed at its own frequency: plastic and battery producers annually, e-waste producers quarterly and annually, on one calendar that also carries one-off extensions, such as battery returns for 2025-26 moved to 30 November 2026.

Build My Calendar

Certificate Purchase Checks

Before you pay, each certificate is checked: issued to a registered recycler or processor, in the right category, priced inside the CPCB band of 30% to 100% of environmental compensation, and still within its validity.

Check My Certificates

Offsetting and Carry-Forward

Surplus certificates are used only where each stream's rules allow: to offset earlier shortfalls, to carry forward, or to sell within the same category. Options that have lapsed, such as plastic's cross-category purchase, which ended with 2025-26, are kept out.

Shortfall and Compensation Tracking

A missed target attracts environmental compensation, and the refund shrinks each year the shortfall stays open: 75%, 60% and 40% for plastic and battery, and 85%, 60% and 30% for e-waste.

Audit and Verification Readiness

Every return, certificate and invoice kept ready for CPCB or State Board inspection and periodic audit, and, under the 2026 plastic amendment, for verification by a Registered Environment Auditor where one is engaged.

How Our EPR Compliance Services Run Each Year

Obligation Baseline

We list every registration your Indian entities hold under each EPR regime, the category of each product, and this year's target in each stream, then reconcile them with the quantities your sales and import data show. You receive a written baseline that every later return and certificate is checked against.

Return Calendar

We set each due date by stream and entity, quarterly as well as annual for e-waste, annual for plastic and battery producers, and add any extension the Ministry or CPCB notifies, so no filing depends on someone remembering it or watching a portal ticker.

Certificate Checks

We check each certificate you plan to buy from a registered recycler or processor for category, quantity, price band and validity before payment. On the plastic portal, where the producer's and processor's figures differ, the lower figure counts, so mismatches are resolved before a return is filed.

Return Filing

We prepare and file each return on the right portal: the Common EPR Portal for plastic since the old plastic portal closed on 28 June 2026, and the stream portals for e-waste and battery, keeping every acknowledgement and the data behind it on record.

Close-Out and Audit File

At year end we track any open shortfall against its refund window, record surplus for offsetting or carry-forward, and build an audit file for every entity. Each obligation then sits in LexComply's platform, so the next cycle starts from a reconciled position.

Is outside support worth it

When EPR Compliance Needs Outside Support

A producer in one stream, with a single entity and a recycler it has used for years, can usually file its own returns, and many do. Outside support earns its place when quarterly and annual returns run side by side, when certificates come from several recyclers at different prices, when a shortfall from an earlier year is still open, or when an inspection asks for records nobody kept together. That is the output LexComply produces: one return calendar, certificates checked before payment, shortfalls tracked against the refund window and an audit file per entity, rather than returns filed one deadline at a time.

EPR Compliance Services FAQs

What are EPR compliance services?

EPR compliance services handle the yearly obligations that follow Extended Producer Responsibility registration: filing returns at each stream's frequency, checking certificates from registered recyclers before purchase, offsetting or carrying forward surplus, tracking any shortfall, and keeping records ready for CPCB or State Board audit.

Who needs EPR compliance services?

Any producer, importer or brand owner registered for plastic packaging, e-waste or battery EPR that must file returns and meet targets every year. They matter most where a business runs several entities or streams, buys certificates from several recyclers, or carries a shortfall from an earlier year.

How often are EPR returns filed?

It depends on the stream. Plastic producers, importers and brand owners file annually, normally by 30 June; the 2025-26 plastic window awaits CPCB's new return module. Battery producers file Form 1(C) and Form 3 annually, by 30 June. E-waste producers file quarterly and annual returns. Extensions are notified separately, so each year's dates are checked.

How much do EPR compliance services cost?

The professional fee depends on the number of streams, entities and returns, how many certificates are checked each year, and whether shortfall tracking and audit files are included. Certificate prices are separate and set within the CPCB band. LexComply quotes in writing before any work starts.

How do I check a recycler certificate before buying it?

Confirm the seller is a registered recycler or processor on the CPCB portal, that the certificate is in your category, that the price sits within 30% to 100% of the environmental compensation rate, and that it is still valid. LexComply runs these checks before payment.

What happens if an EPR target is missed?

Environmental compensation is levied, but the obligation stays and carries forward for up to 3 years. Part of the compensation is refunded if the shortfall is cleared in time: 75%, 60% and 40% for plastic and battery, and 85%, 60% and 30% for e-waste.

Do EPR compliance services cover the new Common EPR Portal?

Yes. The plastic EPR portal was discontinued from 28 June 2026 and its data moved to the Common EPR Portal, while e-waste and battery still run on their own portals. For 2025-26, CPCB has not yet published the revised plastic annual-return schedule.

Are EPR returns audited?

CPCB verifies compliance through inspection and periodic audit in every stream, State Pollution Control Boards also verify plastic and battery producers, and the 2026 plastic amendment allows verification by a Registered Environment Auditor. Under the e-waste rules, false certificates can lead to prosecution under the Environment (Protection) Act. EPR compliance services keep the file ready.
