LMPC Consultant in India for Multi-State Businesses

An LMPC consultant manages Legal Metrology compliance after the paperwork: which entity registers with which authority, whether every label declaration holds, the annual update and any inspector's notice. LexComply acts as that consultant for importers, manufacturers and packers across several States, reviewing label declarations, handling Legal Metrology notices and tracking every registration on a platform used by 450+ corporate clients.

What Our LMPC Consultants Handle

Consulting for the decisions and risks that sit around a Rule 27 registration, long after the first filing.

Multi-Entity Registration Mapping

Every importing, manufacturing and packing entity in your group mapped to its Rule 27 registering authority, the Director of Legal Metrology or a State Controller, in 1 written register that shows which entity holds what.

Multi-State Legal Metrology Coverage

Packing sites and warehouses spread across 2 or more States reviewed together, so each site's registration, declarations and local Legal Metrology contacts sit in one view instead of separate files kept by each plant.

Annual Update Management

A Rule 27 registration has stayed valid until cancelled since 29 May 2026, with particulars updated online every year. Each entity's update date is held in LexComply's platform and filed before it falls due.

How Our Legal Metrology Consultants Work With You

Group and Site Audit

We list every entity, packing site and warehouse your business runs across India, note which registrations already exist and with which authority, and record where an entity trades without one. You receive a written gap register before any filing, amendment or correction is proposed to you.

Declaration Sampling

We sample live artwork across your product lines, both printed packs and e-commerce listings, and test each declaration against Rule 6 and its recent amendments. Every defect is logged with the pack, the clause it breaches and the correction your design or listing team needs to make.

Corrections and Amendments

Missing registrations are filed, changed particulars are amended, and corrected artwork is checked again before reprint. Where the registering authority returns an incomplete application, which Rule 27(4)(a) requires it to do within 7 working days, we fix the gap and refile promptly so the delay stays short.

Notices and Inspections

When a Legal Metrology officer inspects a site or issues an improvement notice, we prepare the reply, the documents and the corrective action, and advise on compounding or an appeal where it applies, so the first notice is resolved before it escalates to a penalty.

Annual Update and Watch

Every registration then sits in LexComply's compliance platform with its annual update date and each amendment it carries across your States. Rule changes are monitored across 200+ government portals, so a new or extended due date reaches the accountable owner within 48 hours of notification.

Is a consultant worth it

When an LMPC Consultant Earns Its Place

A business with one entity, one packing site and a stable product range can keep its Legal Metrology file in-house, and plenty do. A consultant earns its place when registrations sit with more than one authority, when packing happens in several States, when artwork changes every season, or when an inspector's notice arrives and nobody owns the reply. That is the output LexComply produces: one register of entities and authorities, declarations sampled and corrected, notices answered on time, and every annual update tracked, rather than a certificate filed once and then forgotten.

LMPC Consultant FAQs

What does an LMPC consultant do?

An LMPC consultant advises on Legal Metrology compliance for pre-packed goods: which entity registers with which authority under Rule 27, whether label declarations meet Rule 6, when the annual update is due, and how to answer an inspector's notice. LexComply also tracks each of these in its compliance platform.

How do I choose an LMPC consultant in India?

Look for written advice on which authority each entity registers with, a label review that cites the rule behind every correction, experience with improvement notices and compounding, and a way to track annual updates after the first filing. LexComply provides all four within one compliance register.

How much does an LMPC consultant charge?

The professional fee depends on how many entities, packing sites, States and product lines are involved, and whether label reviews and notice handling are included alongside the annual update. Government fees for any filing are separate. LexComply quotes both in writing before any work starts.

Can an LMPC consultant handle businesses in several States?

Yes. Rule 27 makes either the Director of Legal Metrology or a State Controller the registering authority, and a group whose entities pack or import in different States may hold registrations with more than one of them. LexComply maps each entity and site to the authority it is registered with and keeps them in one register.

Is a legal metrology consultant the same as an LMPC consultant?

In practice, mostly. LMPC refers to the Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011, while a legal metrology consultant may also advise on weights and measures more widely. For businesses selling pre-packed goods, both terms describe the same work: registration, declarations, annual updates and notices.

What happens if a Legal Metrology officer finds a labelling defect?

Since 1 May 2026, a first breach of section 36(1) of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, which covers pre-packages that do not conform to the Rules, draws an improvement notice under section 15(6), with a penalty and then a fine for later breaches. Some offences can be compounded under section 48, and an order can be appealed within 60 days under section 50.

What is the LMPC annual update?

The annual update is the yearly online return that the proviso to Rule 27(3) now requires from every registered company or firm: its current address, the products it made, packed or imported in the previous year, how many, and their country of origin. The registration itself does not lapse. LexComply prepares the figures from your records and files the update before it falls due.

Do LMPC rules apply to products sold online?

Yes. Rule 6(10) of the Packaged Commodities Rules requires an e-commerce seller to display the mandatory declarations on its platform, and since 1 May 2026 section 36(1) of the Act expressly covers e-commerce and digital sales. LexComply reviews your listings alongside your printed packs.
