What is LMPC registration?

LMPC registration is the registration an importer, manufacturer or packer must hold under Rule 27 of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 before placing pre-packed commodities on the Indian market. It is granted by the Director of Legal Metrology or by the State Controller, depending on the applicant and the filing channel.

What is the LMPC full form?

LMPC is the common shorthand for Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities. The registration takes its name from the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, made under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, which govern the declarations that must appear on any commodity sold in a pre-packed form by weight, measure or number.

Who needs an LMPC certificate for import?

Any business importing commodities in pre-packed form for sale in India must register under Rule 27 of the Packaged Commodities Rules, and its retail packages must carry the mandatory declarations.
