The National Housing Bank (NHB) plays a crucial role in supporting Housing Finance Companies (HFCs) by offering refinance assistance. Let’s delve into the key aspects of this program:

  1. Purpose of Refinance Assistance
  • Individual Housing Loans: NHB provides refinance assistance to HFCs for housing loans extended to individuals. This helps HFCs manage liquidity and continue their lending operations effectively.
  • Institutional Loans: Additionally, HFCs can avail refinance for loans provided to other institutions involved in housing finance and construction finance.
  1. Eligibility Criteria
  • Property Security: Loans against property (such as those secured by house property) are eligible for refinance. However, this applies only to loans used for specific purposes like construction, purchase, repairs, up gradation, or extension.
  • Exclusions: Loans against property for purposes other than those mentioned above are not eligible for NHB refinance.
  1. Important Considerations
  • Applicability: The rules and policies outlined in this booklet specifically apply to refinance released under NHB schemes. They do not pertain to refinance availed by HFCs earlier under any old refinance schemes.
  • Old Refinance Schemes: HFCs that previously availed refinance under different schemes continue to be governed by the respective rules and policies associated with those schemes.
