She-Box: A remedial machinery OR just another formality by Government

Earlier this month, The Ministry of Women & Child Development has launched an online portal named She-Box i.e. Sexual Harassment Electronic Box (PDF FILE :- She Box ) to enable the women employees to lodge complaint against sexual harassment at work place.

It is actually one among the various steps taken by central government for effective implementation of Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal Act(The SH Act), 2013. The portal is covering all types of public and private employees. The portal can be accessed at the link http://shebox.nic.in/ .  A complaint once filed through this, will be forwarded to the Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) of the concerned Ministry/Department/PSU/Autonomous Body etc. for getting resolved within a stipulated time.

The above mentioned mechanism is undoubtedly a very less complicated & easy to reach weapon in the hands of women employees but the question arises here is, this will help only those who raise their voice against the bad incidents happen with them but what is the remedial mechanism for those who are not able to open up about this serious issue called harassment at work place due to the fear of losing their jobs or designation.

The tag line of SHe-Box portal says “A safe work place is every woman’s right”.  But till the time our government or legislature doesn’t come out with some machinery that is capable enough to prevent and prohibit the shameful situations of sexual harassment at work place for every type of organization and every type of employees, how can we conclude that this right is  actually enjoyed by every woman at work place.
